Intro"On Being Christian"(ad a testament of my being a person of deep faith such that i don't need miracle stories to maintain my faith---those that place there faith on Jesus, via "loaves and fishes etc etc, have based their faith on a false foundation/// MADY:) my health so bad my time here about over--i have little time. i will consider your posts when i just have some time to breath and give you time; i read in 1987 a book that was given to me--i had know idea of the authour--i saw he was an intellectual catholic monk priest that was banned from giving mass or speaking to congregation---at the time of his writing this book/ important differences between him and i was he scornful of Christian Gnosticism, i am a christian gnostic with the context of of my Universalism. He , on the miracles, is the view whether their were miracles or not---i beliveve one can't have true faith that G-d can truly become a man, by in depest love and humilty become, by reducing himself/itself to flesh, it can only be totally--his reduction to just a man, is the suprime act of love---in my Superman writing, i bring out the making him a loaves and fixes/ leprosy curer/walk on wather/ heaing all manner of disease would mean he wanted immediately immense POWER--and rather than being crucified, he would had even the romans kneeel to him--truth no person in history performed actual miracles such stunning a nature--Simon Magus did create "miracles" but they were the tricks of a skilled magician, and he was eventually seen though---Jesus was a man of immense honesty, and all the stories of miracles, except for the ressurrection, had no recorded exiistence until writtendown by people 90 years after 1 A.D.---most importantly Paul of Tarsus writing in about 35A.D--makes not one reference to Jesus having performed miracles--and this goes for all, including Buddha--truth is ancient man--told wild fireside stories--and passed them off as truth:) Now i post a good comment from amazon on this book//////"In my 42-year career as a scientist I scarcely had time for religious education, meditation and inspiration. In my so-far 12 years of retirement I have been led to broadening my knowledge and appreciation of religion -- man's attempt to find spiritual meaning in the universe, a universe whose physical side man has so successfully investigated and revealed through science
The figure of Jesus has always been of utmost interest to me, particularly his human side -- and now of late, his spiritual significance. Jesus is without a doubt the most influential person who ever lived in Western society, witness the countless buildings and institutions that exist today in his wake. And yet it is extremely difficult to separate the mythical from the factual aspects of his life and death. This is where this book and a previous one I reviewed, "The Gospel of Jesus Christ" by mathematical physicist John Davidson, have come to my sorely-needed rescue.
Kung's book is a thorough, brilliant, and ultimately convincing attempt to get at the heart of the motivation and end result of Jesus' short life on earth. I was led to Kung by a sermon I heard a number of years ago at a Unitarian Church in Ft. Collins, CO in which an excerpt from Kung's book described the difference between the end of Jesus' life and the deaths of other religious leaders. That sermon was powerful to me then, and still speaks to me today. It pointed out with Kung that whereas others died in old age, surrounded by their disciples and wives after satisfactorily accomplishing their mission, Jesus' early death was stark, brutal, and utterly cheerless. He was tortured, deserted by his followers -- seemingly even deserted by the personal God of whom he so ardently and sincerely spoke. Is this seeming abandonment at a young age by man and God the ultimate source of his meaning to mankind?
A respected Catholic theologian, Kung is unremittingly honest in his attempt to get at the truth of the times. In contrast to Schweitzer's somewhat impersonal theological style in "A Quest for the Historical Jesus", Kung's style results in a much more human narrative, drawing you convincingly into the times and mind of Jesus. The book is almost equally divided into two parts, half before and half after the death of Jesus. I must admit that I have read only the first half; the revelation of the meaning of Jesus' life is yet to be given by Kung. But even at this point I cannot resist encouraging others to pick up this amazingly insightful and thoughtful volume -- to peruse it, to underline and to savor it.
Man has learned to fathom many of the secrets of the universe, but they are limited to its non-spiritual aspects. This knowledge can lead either to exaltation and benefit from man's influence on earth, or to our death and destruction. The ultimate outcome of our reign on earth will be determined by spiritual aspects of our search for knowledge that so far, and maybe even in the long run, are inaccessible to science. They are immensely important to understand; this search is urgent for all to participate in. Kung's book, as well as Davidson's, provide significant steps to broadening our grasp of knowledge in this direction." i support strongly Jesus was in fact strongly anti-laws laws nothing but laws and the statement he makes tha that he removes nothing from TheLaw" Was a blatant addition after his death and resurrection, and was placed there by feircely pro-law persons. It ignores that Jesus openly despised Pharr.sees and Sadducees--and saducees were like bquislings to Rome, as French Vichy government was to Nazi Germany. i stress i don't agree with alll of Kung---- but i bought a book of his writtem 1964--which was all dogmatic dribble--and realized he than changed dramatically via seeking vfact from truth and llies---i am strongly anti-augustine, he is not--though he admits the massive persecution of "hereetics" were Augustine creation--and Augustine changed the church from the church of Jesus to the church of Augustine----cripes augustine writes his confessions, and then damns everyone that were guilty of things he confessed. A good friend, a catholic raised psychiatrist--on reading the works of Augustine, said he was easily borderline psychotic Note: i myself believe in something happened in which, via spiritual display, convinced many Jesus deth was only his body--never in history have we seen such a reversal, the bloody beaten pulp of JESUS---totally fled from--to die in humiliation alone----i MaryMagdalene(the likely founder of Gnostic Christianity) no one one have known to stone rolled away--Note, one need know the adultress MARY, BEING STONED IS NOT MARY MAGDALENE. Kung iis idiot regards THE NEW COSMOLOGY-- Not the story of "Doubting Thomas" Kung establishes NEVER happened, but was a made up story for R.C. church in its war to destroy the Christian Gnostic--who had millions of folloers--church, in Kung refuses to state that gnotics were killed/raped tortured, had 1000 of their books burnedSso their were NOME until Nag Hammadi, virtual miraculous dicovery in 1945--not to bre confused by LAZY minds! with Dead SeaScrolls--save time with those insisting Jesus was an Essene--John The Baptist probaby was, and Jesus'es greatest mistake was to be impressed by him---- the scholr that spent like 30 years translating The Dead Sea Scrolls said he wished he'd never seen them---he called a cult of fanatic hatred and lust for war--they would make goof Taliban-types---this scholar was forced by the jewish governtment to apologize, and say he was an alcoholic----i say since when does alcoholism prevents one from telling the damned truth--no bone was closer DSS---he was speaking, i believe, truth! As i come closer to death, i find nothing is more frightening than the ignorant minds of men----i have learned the price of knowing too much amongst bigoted minds ---i relate closely to Hugh Everett,III--died alone forsaken crucified by his fellow scientist--and now, his dorm room at Princeton a shrine of honor--a man some claim, legacy overthrows Einstein---he is considered by some as Einstein's equal---i hurt now when i reflect on how i was nicked named Einstein between 19-27-----enuff said as i lay dying---
