DATA NETWORKING 12/15/97 Rating: Outperf Change: None ÿ Asian Exposure for Networking Companies On-going concerns about the economic crisis in Asia has prompted us to review the exposure of the data networking companies to the region. In the table below, we show by company the revenue percentage from Asia in the most recent quarter and whether the percentage increased or decreased relative to the prior quarter. In drawing conclusions about this data, we find that the companies tend to fall into three groups: Companies for which high or moderate exposure in the region is offset by stronger business trends elsewhere, companies that have low exposure on a percentage basis and/or are starting from a low base, and companies for which problems in the region have factored into disappointing results recently. Group 1: Cisco (CSCO). Group 2: Xylan, Fore, and Cable tron. Group 3: Ascend. Asia is one of the reasons we think that consensus estimates for the next several quarters may still be too high for 3Com. ÿ For information regarding DLJ and the companies referenced within this report,
