re: Y2K and USA banks

I'm not at all certain that the USA banking system is going to fail. Smarter banks have been working on this for years. (I've talked to someone from such an environment -- remember that 30 year mortgages hit this bug back in 1970)

Plus, the FED has threatened to shut down non-compliant USA banks. I have seen no solid evidence that the USA banking system will collapse if the FED follows through with its threat. Looks like hype to me.

A big question is how many stupid banks are out there? The likely action against stupid banks could spook the stock market all by itself. Also lead to a loss of confidence without a banking system failure. So, it doesn't have to be the worst-case scenerio for metals to do well :-)

Internationally, banking will be much worse, but that's another can of worms...
