SL -

So have you figured out how long it would take to download two gigabytes worth of data over a 33.6 Kbps line following a system crash?

Doesn't sound all that convenient to me.

SL, sorry - I won't buy it. You said...
> Oh, it's also a lot easier and cheaper to install a backup software package on a new PC, than a tape drive. Now...which looks like the future?<

I have a Sony StorStation (just like Iomega ditto - it was cheaper),
cost $130 including a 2GB tape. Installs very easily into parallel
port. Backup requires one click. 1 GB takes 3-4 hours
to backup and verify. After initial full backup, daily differential
backups take a few minutes. And I can keep the tape in a safe place.
Easy, cheap and secure.

Wow, are you trying to tell me you now short IOM??? THQI is doing great.

"Backup to a server" has some Pros and Cons. It definitely provide an excellent disaster backup solution but bandwidth remains the bigger problem to overcome. Not a bad idea afterall but will take at least few years until it has any sizable user base.

I wonder who brought this idea into this thread??

Good Luck
