Henry...

You've said a mouthful, "i wouldn't offhandedly writeoff the likes of a Lucent and Scalpel". I used to own a sizable position in an emerging technology, with PCTL (PictureTel/video conferencing). They still command a 60% share of the upper end market, I believe. Last year I twice bought at $30+ and sold at $45+. Then Intel announced they would start producing a similar, low cost, technology. The stock was at about $30 with several buy ratings active. Sales dropped significantly. Today PCTL closed at 6 5/8. I don't think Intel has come up with anything significant yet but that doesn't matter, it's what's happened that matters. Big Name competition scares Wall Street, "the proof's in the pudding". Not all of PCTL's problems stem from that announcment but it's one of the big things that started it's drop, the truth was secondary. Perception can hurt a stock's price terribly. I hope something similar doesn't happen to JMAR, my propellor's still spinning from PCTL's drop. JR
