ElM, as you know, the population of NZ is over 4 million, and 1 million have gone to live elsewhere, at least for a while. So the lady you mentioned and those supposed 200 or 300 former convicts are irrelevant. Back in 1840, there were already swarms of English here. That's why the treaty was agreed with Maoris, who wanted to benefit from the immigrants but wanted to retain their own territory.

The same process is under way now, with Made in China immigration and investment. The Kiwis are the new Maoris, hoping to benefit from more successful foreigners. The result will be much the same, but without English common law, habeas corpus and those good things. We'll be subsumed by Made in China in the same way Maoris were subsumed by England. But it's better to be subsumed by China than by Moslems who are competing to take over. Better still would be to be like Switzerland, or Japan, and protect the borders and maintain standards.

Maoris became British subjects too, but with chiefly rights over their tribal areas, with the right to sell land to the Crown aka the government.

Don't believe the silly myths that abound around the world about all sorts of things. NZ was not started by criminal colonies.
