Paul,

Yup, I watched.

<Nothing short of an earnings surprise to the upside will cause a rebound in the price. What do you thinkl the prospects are of that?>

Although I am more interested in what the stock will be doing in the next two years than in the next two months or two quarters, I disagree with your basic premiss. I don't think it will neccessarily take an upside surprise to move the stock. More will depend on what they say about 1998's prospects. I think an earnings miss has been already largely priced into the stock. Forward looking comments will be the key. Looking further into the future (as I always do with Intel), I see a company more dominant than ever with a brighter future than ever. In the coming years, Intel will become as dominant on the high end as they have become on the desktop. This represents a huge opportunity including replacing and taking share away from mini computers and mainframes. Virtually the entire technology industry has already rallied around Merced as the 64b processor of choice.

As far as earnings predictions for this quarter, my guess is that INTC will come in at plus or minus 4 cents of estimates. In the larger scheme of things this is immaterial.

Soon we will be in 1998 and the market will start looking towards 1999. I'm already looking there and I like what I see.

Happy investing/trading,

FF
