Don't joke about this. Have you ever read the novel Shockwave Rider by John Brunner? It was prescient in so many ways. It was written in the early 1970s, yet it has an Internet equivalent, computer viruses (called tapeworms. In fact was used as the model of the first one that took down the Internet in the early 1990s), reality shows and many, many things.

There is a supposed quote in the first few pages that goes something like this

In the beginning we had they foot race and then the arms race. After that was the brain race. Hopefully, in the end, we will have the human race.

We entered the brain race in the wake of the fall of the Soviet Union.

Note: we already have the 'kappa bird'....
