OPEC is in a real bind, the weakest position they have been in during my lifetime. They need the money to keep flowing and they recognize it isn't going to. Technology has defeated the myth of "peak oil."

They normally would cut production but they can't -- because they can see that ten years from now US natural gas as well as oil is going to dramatically reduce demand for their product. Thus, it is better to sell it cheap now than cheaper 10 years from now.

Fracking has brought about revolutionary change in the petroleum markets in the last ten years in the beginning of this century that will leave only Israel standing ten years from now.
