MSFT's attitude can best be summed up: 'hey I want to have my cake and eat it too ... hey your cake looks pretty good, I'll take that too ... and hey codally-challenged flunkies from DOJ (I mean do they even know how to write code? we're talking software here) trying to bust up my party ... well I'm just going to pout and sulk and hold my breath until I turn blue (oops, not blue ... whatever colour Redmondites turn).'

More seriously, you'd be surprised how fast valuations can change (MSFT = $75 idea), especially if people start to wonder about the basic principle underlying your business, i.e. using a monopoly to crush competitors in every software market from here to Timbucktoo.
