Right. They were just following orders. The Nuremberg defense... There is no reason to believe that they kept anyone safe. Yeah, they have claimed that, but no one can point to anything and say that information gained from torture prevented an event from happening. Does the ends justify the means? The Right likes to claim that liberals operate that way, but the only ones who actually do that are on the Right... And then they are shocked.........shocked I tell you........when terrorists commandeer a couple of planes and fly them into some American office towers. Why in the name of all that his holy would they try to harm freedom loving, God loving, good natured, good looking Americans? Its a mystery.

Its just amazing the horrible legacy of the last republican admin. Perhaps one of the very worst in US history. Started two wars - one clearly of choice. Justified it with hunt for non-existent weapons of mass destruction. Paid for it by ballooning the national debt - even (completely) irresponsibly cut taxes on the wealthy while doing so, further contributing to the pain of our children. Now Putin himself will tell you that there is nothing like starting a war to increase one's popularity back home. So the republicans gained control of both the house and the senate and the presidency, and proceeded to chair our descent into perhaps of the worst financial calamity of our time - the subprime mortgage crisis. Now we can add to the deception absolutely sub-human torture of detainees held with zero actionable intelligence as a result. Tanked the economy, ballooned the debt, set precedents that the Chinese Government is pointing to as now as our having no moral high-ground to speak of human rights abuse. That's the republican party's "leadership". You should note Bush left office with an approval rating in the 20% range.
