[SI fees]

<<<Seems like de facto censorship to me.>>>

It doesn't keep anyone from reading, but does limit those who post to those who are willing to cough up the fee. I certainly don't want freedom of speech censored, but I do approve fences and gates to slow folks down. Any fee no matter how small or large takes time to process and consequently keeps out the hit-and-run posters.

Behind the money itself is the fact of registration. Once a person's sent payment, SI has a record of who he or she is and few will make libelous comments when they know they can be tracked down.

Why such a large fee? That I couldn't say. Maybe they have so many members they need a way to thin them out. I honestly don't know.

Glad we got grandfathered in. There have to be some benefits to being pioneers. :)

<<Silicon Investor now charges a membership fee ($125) for those who wish to post. The fee rises to $200 on Jan 1, 1998.>>

If only my portfolio was doing as well! Are these memberships transferable?!!
