A1, <<Gates stealing Mac OS for Win95 -- expansion on msft/sgi talks>>

I try to segregate my feelings for a company and what I think the
best solution is for it's stock valuation. ref: (SGI will look back
with satisfaction it's intellect lives on.)
McCracken, with his new CEO, ( if ever?) will have the responsibility to their employees to solidify the agreement as to
protect SGI. Gates is not God. He can be matched.

Apple only had great software, but SGI also happens to make great hardware (and knows quite a bit about OpenGL). I don't think Microsoft is really looking into a foray into that area (after all, they don't make microprocessors either, do they? ;) ).

And Apple only relied on *one* aspect of their OS, the GUI, to save them from the hordes, and didn't really develop the rest as they should have.

I wouldn't mind Microsoft emulating some of SGI's greater OS design features either -- it'll certainly improve the lifes of the millions if they do ;).

The strategy I would have in mind for IRIX *doesn't* rely on the mediocrity of some other OSes to go on forever either...or it would be a very foolish strategy (like Apple relying on the Microsoft GUI to suck rocks from 2.11 to eternity. OK, it still sucks IMHO, but not enough to prevent people to buy it, nowadays).
