You are kidding, right? It is regularly used to extract false confessions. Remember Vietnam when downed American pilots would sign confessions that they intentionally attacked women and children? Did you think that they were sincere? That sort of thing happens a lot. A person being tortured will tell his or her torturer whatever they think their torturer wants to hear so it will stop. This is well known outside of wingnut circles, apparently.
