There is no reason on earth not to accommodate the Canadians on this, and ultimately, we will.

Environmentally, pipelines are the best way to ship oil (of ANY kind) across land. That is the way it is. So, the environmentalists will eventually lose this argument.

Of course we don't! The Koch brothers with their massive investment in it do. Their ignorant stooges have been convinced they do too. But, is Tar Sands oil even economic with the Saudis driving prices down? I think not...

Let's not forget, fracking can happen OUTSIDE the US as well. The Saudis can frack their depleted fields, cheaper than we can. I'm sure American companies will line up to do it.
