I think it is important to distinguish between those processes that were sanctioned by government and those that weren't. I would never, for example, condone the My Lai Massacre, for example, and neither did I defend anyone who was involved in it.

I do defend what was done at Salt Pit because I think those measures were reasonable in the circumstances.
