Regarding virtual capital, there was a recent story about an engineer from Texas who came up with an idea for computer code (something about a new way to automatically update legacy applications to new more sophisticated languages). He kept it to himself and never worked on it or wrote it down, although he mentioned it to some manager at the company he worked. A while later he resigned to work on the idea full time. Though he never wrote anything down, the company sued him, claiming ownership. Must be a pretty good idea: before the lawsuit they offered to buy him out for $2 million.
