The ridge of high pressure is beginning to build of California. This means cold as shit air for eastern U.S. by early January. Wow! Winter is here.

The high pressure in the exit region of the Pacific storm track can be pesky. Most storms travel north of the ridge...advect warmth up to Alaska and drag down cold air over eastern U.S. However, here's a link to an upper level low that is trapped on the southwestern side of the developing ridge.
