You're probably seeing the (economically) upper crust - even though, for many years now, there are crowds of Russian tourists everywhere you go - in Asia, Europe, and in the US. Still, it's probably a small minority coming from a big and relatively poor country.

"Stoli" is OK, but there are better vodkas - including the Costco house brands. A few years ago, the "Russian Standard" made waves, winning some competitions - but it's been a long time since I tried it.

The Russian economy produces (almost) everything they need, but the quality and price are apparently not competitive with other nations. But, in this sense, China and other Asian manufacturers have everyone's number, not just Russia's. Could be that Agri and Energy will prove to be a good niche, for a long time.

The CIA fact book mentions that between 1998 and 2008 their economy was growing at 7% - which is good, but far short of the 13% that your calculation would require. So, I'm not sure what to make of it.
