Although Pat makes some good points in the article, I must say that unlike he suggests, I don't want to entertain any notion of compromising with the left. Compromises with leftists have brought America to the disgraced and ruined conditioned that it exists in today.
Consider the creeping advancement of the ruinous ideas of leftists. I'll use gays in the examples below, but one could substitute Muslims, pedophiles, druggies, illegals, miscegenationists, Marxists or any other undesirable sub-group whose lifestyles disrupts the normal standards of civilized society. The creeping advancement of leftists tends to always happen like this throughout history:
step 1 -- evoke sympathy from the weak-minded
In this step, gays, for example, are portrayed as a small and insignificant group of people who simply want to be left alone, and not beaten up or harassed. They and their advocates claim that gays only want to live their lives peacefully in the shadows, without fear of violence, and would never cause any harm to society at all. They evoke sympathy by maintaining that they are merely "harmless and defenseless people whom are very generous, loving and kind, and that they cannot help the way they are."
step 2 -- advance a platform of tolerance
In this phase, the process is taken further. Gays express a desire to come out of the shadows and be allowed to walk, hold hands, and kiss in public, just like "everyone else." They and their advocates insist that doing so would cause no harm to the fabric of society, and that anyone who does not tolerate their presence is homophobic and merely ignorant and afraid of the unknown.
step 3 -- advance a platform of equality
In this step, the process is taken much further. Gays insist on the rights of marriage and full recognition across society, the same as any wedded couple consisting of a man and woman. Gays and lesbians demands that they be allowed to adopt little boys and little girls.
step 4 -- advance a platform of guilt and subversion
In this phase, normal people are made to feel guilty and ashamed for not only shunning homosexuals in the past, but for not becoming homosexuals themselves in the present. Normal people are told, "Okay, so you claim that you've accepted gay people, yet you choose not to be gay yourself and experience the richness of homosexuality, so your actions are really saying that there is something wrong with homosexuality." Consequently, many normal people feel guilty and some are subverted.
step 5 -- advance a platform of fear
In this step, normal people are in fear of losing their jobs and business because homosexuals are now their peers, subordinates, bosses and clients. Gays and their advocates push a very radical and militant agenda in which any behavior less than a complete and total celebration of homosexuality is vehemently attacked as bigoted.
step 6 -- advance a platform of dispossession
In this phase, normal people are outwardly regarded as the new abnormal element in society and an undesirable threat. They are targeted for dispossession by the pro-gay government, homosexual groups, and pro-gay corporations. They are targeted for IRS investigations, and their businesses, assets and possession are seized by the state. Most are sued out of existence for hate crimes in civil court, presided over by gay judges and juries.
step 7 -- dominate and replace
In this final evolution, gays totally dominate society and anyone who is not officially recognized by the gay community is either imprisoned, killed, or rendered totally inconsequential in society. Normalcy in their radical new order is homosexuality, and anyone who is not gay is hated, persecuted and disposed of.

Remember, I used gays in the examples, but one could substitute in any undesirable leftist group such as Muslims, pedophiles, Black supremacists, Marxists, druggies, and/or illegals.
