You neatly skirt the real issue, which is not the currency du jour but whether debt in the form of US Treasuries will continue to be a reliable investment. Unfortunately, an end to the US dollar will emerge only when the US goes bankrupt or WWIII starts and government debt around the world is written off. This scenario is becoming more likely as time goes on and nothing is going to slow it down either. Just because the "alternative" is ugly and even unthinkable to CNBC watchers doesn't make it impossible.
