I wonder how much of that $30 million loss can be attributed to the traveler coffee mugs AMZN sent to all of it's customers? I got one myself the other day and was surpised to see them squander money like that. Coffee mugs won't keep customers loyal. Competitive prices will.

JGlad,

I have a short position in AMZN. As with YHOO, this can be a shorter's nightmare. There are signs of cracking though, BKS (Barnes and Nobel) just kicked AMZN out of the premier spot on AOL. Earnings mean nothing to AMZN and YHOO and I'd caution against shorting either unless you can back it with a lot of $$$ and have a strong heart! AMZN is pretty hard to short, but may be getting easier as there has been some recent insider selling to add shares to the float.

Don

Yes it is tough to borrow..but what about buying puts? Or do you think 3-3/4 for Jan '98 strike 50 is too heavy a premium for this short period? If AMZN goes down it will be a nasty dive.
