As has been pointed out, there is no realistic way that the US dollar, which had become freely circulating worldwide, could be tied to a specific quantity of gold and silver and retain its trading utility

It worked fine with all other reserve currencies, per actual history, and until elites managed to spin and manipulate the economic game and create Central banks. But if enabling trade is the only thing that you believe is important about money and a financial system, so be it.
