Up till the 1990's Russia overspent on it's defence budget. It economically destroyed the USSR and communism died.

Down came the Berlin Wall.

I would have thought the USA would know better than follow the same recipe for disaster.

The high USD (fist time since the dotcom boom) is just a hope that interest rates rates will go up...

there is nothing more to it.

The US currency made gains against the euro, yen, pound, South Korean won, Brazilian real and 11 other global currencies this year, marking the first time since the height of the dotcom boom in 2000 that all major currencies as ranked by Bloomberg have fallen against the dollar.

Can you imagine that? High on a hope?
