Joe:
At Schatz Energy Research Center, we previously were using a membrane material from DuPont called Nafion in our fuel cell. Recently we switched to using a membrane from W.L Gore and Company(Gore-Tex). It performs much better than the DuPont membrane. We are also going to evaluate membranes made by 3M. In investigating Gore, it seems like an excellent company with many excellent products with most derived from modified forms of teflon. Unfortunately their stock is not publicly traded. Gore is projecting a major drop in the price of their membrane as they move along the learning curve. The membrane is a major factor in the cost of a fuel cell.
