Ron,

There could be a couple of reasons. The first is that it appears some important legislation related to CAFE standards incorporating CNG have been passed..

And I believe that, during the next two years, Obama will be pushing for higher emission standards for Diesel powered vehicles, regardless of fuel price differences. This means truck fleets will remain under pressure to convert to CNG/LNG, especially now that NG powered vehicles are becoming more widely available, as is the fuel distribution network. You can bet that this will increase the pressure to convert from highly polluting diesel (particulates..etc) to clean NG..

afdc.energy.gov

And even with the price of oil plummeting to $50/bbl, the average BTU equivalent for CNG is $24/bbl. However, this is not to say that CNG can go to parity with oil and remain competitive, because there are extra costs associated with storage (QTWW) and fuel system/engine configurations.

But I think we could see it remain competitive down to $35-40/bbl oil, especially with gov't emissions requirements and the following..

Putin is under terrible pressure to create mischief that cause oil prices to increase. His entire economy, and therefore his gov't, would seem to depend upon it.

All it takes is for him to escalate some global hotspot and we could see oil prices rise significantly..
