China's Legend introduced low-cost PCs with Pentium II.

Kemble and thread: Interesting news. I liked the bit about PC sales will be 10 million units by 2000 with current year sales expected to be 2 million units. Introduction of this new low-cost pc is in response to fierce competition from foreign mafgs to grab the market share. One disadvantage for foreing competitors seems to be the import duties which amounts to some 32% making tough for foreign brands. My suggestion to Compaq and Dell etc is to immediately think about building their own plants there in China. It is will be a huge market in couple of years and importing pcs will be a disadvantage.
