This history of it is pretty strange, if you ask me.

It started out as a scientific theory, a mere proposition that it is possible that our activity on the planet is causing it to gradually get warmer. Then, tons of people set out to prove it to be correct. In fact, an entirely new field of research is created, one where the participants' entire future livelihoods depend on the outcome of the research. If it turns out there is no global warming, these people are permanently unemployable.

And they couldn't prove it. Like Astronomy, it takes a long time; unlike Astronomy, the mathematics of Calculus seldom apply; instead, the mathematics of Linear Algebra are applied to create wild statistical projections by throwing in everything but the kitchen sink and extracting anything with a high R^2.

Finally, they moved to the public relations stage, where they are selling a product rather than conducting science to prove or disprove a hypothesis. When the salesmen get involved, you know you're getting a line.

And the same people who bought the Obama line in 2008 and again in 2012 are the ones who have bought the line from the global warming salesmen. Says more about the buyers than it does the sellers, imo.
