True, scientists prefer to ignore them and don't wish to give any semblance of seriousness to their silliness by consenting to "debates". Unfortunately, politicians are an entirely different breed and are continuously being petitioned by people who (lets be frank and entirely honest) are basically living in the bronze age when it comes to the true history of life on earth. That is way I find it so fortunate that so many free thought/humanist/atheist groups have flourished in the last few decades. Without an organised opposition to the imposition of irrational beliefs in the school system, and society in general--America would truly be in a bad way...
