Yes, but then their buddies and owners would have lost much of their net worth and that's anathema to the Fed. Krugman would have gone apoplectic too. <g>

Velocity is the main key for me. Soon after it reverses its multi year down trend, deflation (or dis-inflation if one prefers) will be toast. If or when real consumer sentiment gets truly bullish or consumers get a clue about how they're being lied to about CPI-U and real inflation, Katy bar the door.
