what "subscription content?"

In IE, when you add something to your "Favorites" list, you can choose to "subscribe" to that page. The subscription mechanism automagically updates that page periodically (user-defined) and notifies the user when changes have taken place on that page.

Be default, auto-update is turned on, which I agree it shouldn't be. It is setup to do it at midnight (I think) by default, the idea being to update all the content while the person is probably not doing anything. If you have a dial-up connection, it will auto-connect to your ISP, do the updates and disconnect.

This same thing happened to me and I didn't know what the hell was going on either. It was a big mistake to have this ON by default in my opinion. It is useful to me now - especially since I got a cable modem.
