One more comment on my last post.

It should be obvious to every American by now that we have serious problems inside the military and inside our Veteran communities. These problems are not self-inflicted wounds...at least not self-inflicted by the uniformed military.

Universal service is what worked best for America until Nixon ended it in 1972 with a stroke of his pen. And it worked on multiple levels including but not limited to instilling - a productive work ethic, a sense of personal pride, national pride, family pride and neighborhood pride.

America was smart enough to fire Nixon, but dumb enough to let his bad decisions stand intact.

Paying lip service to active duty members and veterans is pursued by some of our civilian leaders, and numerous non-profits promote it relentlessly, but saying "Thank You" is not a viable substitute for a strong national defense strategy.

Donating $19 per month has become our new national penance.
But don't kid yourself, $19 will not keep us, you, and your family free. Only service can do that.
