Sun will not be come a software only company. Solaris already
runs on the Intel box. You can buy Solaris for x86 for $99.00
off the street today. But what this agreement entails is that
Sun will port Solaris onto Merced which enable Intel to have a
legitimate networking server OS. It has always been a part of
Sun's strategy to offer X86 software products. It will give Sun
a new market and Intel customers more choices.

Will there be a need for Sun box. The answer is yes. x86 boxes
are behind in technology and performance for mission critical
server applications by quite a margin. Sun boxes are already
64bits and have the capability of running a 64 way multi-processor
systems. Intel bases boxes will still take several years to catch
up. By then Sun boxes would be makeing 2048 way servers.

Hi All:

Will Sun turn into a software Company? When Solaris runs well on Intel Box,
will there be a need to have a Sun Box?

Cheers
