Locogringo,
Junk science (global warming) is driven by a quest for obscene profits
"Profits" are just another way to describe the benefits of cronyism. Most junk science is not profitable at all.

One of my favorite examples is closed-loop geothermal heat exchangers. In theory, if you can pump heat and cold from the ground into your house, you can remain relatively "carbon-neutral" compared to the traditional methods of heating and cooling.

The only problem is that said systems can cost tens of thousands of dollars to install. That cost represents all of the time, materials, and energy required to build the dang thing. And for what? To save a few hundred bucks every year on heating and cooling bills? To feel proud about not burning as much fossil fuels in the process?

This and other "environmentally-friendly" solutions make about as much sense as Rube Goldberg machines. It makes no sense economically or even from an environmental perspective, since you just wasted tons of natural resources in a vain attempt to be "green."

Absolutely.

“Doubt is our product,” states a 1969 memo from the tobacco giant Brown and Williamson, “since it is the best means of competing with the ‘body of fact’ that exists in the mind of the general public.”
