I think that's a very good point Jim.
One could make a very good case that CPQ has exactly what MU needs in the management dept, while MUEI has the engineering, innovation, direct model, etc.

But I think MUEI stands on its own with the takeover concept just a little icing on the side.

On the sub 1K boxes, my guess is that while that will lower ASP's it will also greatly expand the market for boxes generally. Sure, some
who bought 2K boxes may head south, but I suspect many who were not buying, or who have one box already, will join the fray or add a second box.

I would venture to say that WS is skittish about box makers who can't make money, and have heavily discounted Micron on extrapolations from the current Q. A little earnings visibility/momentum (dare I say it, an upside surprise) would do wonders.

Don't forget when we blast MUEI management for the stock price that Compaq has dropped from 78 to 55 this year without earnings problems, so some of the decline in MUEI must be attributable to cycllcal disfavor of the group in general, as well as fearful extrapolations of MUEI's earnings hiccup.

CPQ or HWP would be good buyer. if there is to be a buyer. Personally I think HWP would be wonderful. They are struggling in the PC business, make great machine but are battling dell, cpq, IBM, MUEI, Acer, Gateway, Packard Bell, etc etc. HWP is a quality company that runs things well. Cannot conceive of DELL buying MUEI. Also, I am having trouble following the conversation about digital tv replacing computers. I think that computers will be computers and tvs will be tvs, no matter what Malone and other try to do., Look at Kodak with their digital photography, poured ton of money into it, and it really is not catching on. people like to take their film in and get the pictures back. I am in MUEI, have bot 3 muei computers, think that they and dell are equal in computers, but no comparison in marketing, (unfortunately). Larry

Granted that moving up from the bottom of a well doesn't necessarily even get you out of the well but I believe there was an upgrade of MU last week and there is one this morning. Since MU and MUEI tend to move in the same direction, this should be good for MUEI. The MU upgrade along with the sale (which everyone has agreed needed to be done if we are ever to get MUEI P/E ratios near those of the other box sellers) should bode well for MUEI. We have a long way to go but at least I shouldn't get another margin call today.
