Because Toyota and Nissan are way above GM class in reliability and quality. People aren't as stupid if they have to spend their own money.

From the article, GM is taking steps to correct the Volt's shortcomings so that it is more competitive with the Leaf.
I got that, but you didn't answer the question (and neither did the article, for that matter).

What is it about the Volt that makes it not as appealing as the Leaf? It really doesn't make any sense to me. The Volt is a fine car, IMO. It's a bit pricey, but then again, the Leaf isn't that much cheaper.
