The Volt has the look and feel of a kludge.

You can't really make it do what it needs to do (that is, function adequately as a plug-in electric) so you add this entire unrelated assembly with all of the complexity and maintenance issues and cost that go along with it so that you can limp by. In effect, choosing the worst of both worlds and trying to meld them into something better. I wouldn't say that never works out, but it is an uphill climb.

Nissan, OTOH, recognized that the Leaf was going to be for very special tastes until the battery problem could be solved, and they accepted it and embraced it.

The Volt will continue to be failure because instead of taking one job and doing it really well they have settled for taking two jobs and doing neither of them particularly well. It is 70s-era Detroit thinking at its best.

I got that, but you didn't answer the question (and neither did the article, for that matter).

What is it about the Volt that makes it not as appealing as the Leaf? It really doesn't make any sense to me. The Volt is a fine car, IMO. It's a bit pricey, but then again, the Leaf isn't that much cheaper.

My impression it was all about the price.......as well as small things......like sitting two adults in the back seat uncomfortably; touch screens instead of buttons etc. Haven't driven either so can't really comment.
