NESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 1997--

Expanded Enterprise Systems Testing Facility Provides Full-
Scale Proof-of-Concept Testing Environment for
North America Customers

Underscoring its commitment to becoming number one in customer
satisfaction, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today announced
the grand opening of the Enterprise Solution Center (ESC) in Houston,
designed to provide full-scale, proof-of-concept testing resources to
North American and global customers. As Compaq's primary solution
center, the new and improved facility is the largest of a group of
labs located around the country that are managed by Compaq Enterprise
Consulting Services. Smaller-scale, satellite facilities are located
in New York City and San Francisco. Additional centers are scheduled
to open in Atlanta and Chicago in the first half of 1998. The new
Compaq Enterprise Solution Center is one of the world's most
comprehensive testing facilities.

Enterprise Solution Center Offers Impressive Array of Compaq
Resources

The high-tech lab features more than 1200 Compaq desktop
computers, a variety of Compaq ProLiant servers and an assortment of
Compaq Netelligent networking components that can be configured to
replicate and provide proof-of-concept testing of systems environments
prior to actual deployment by Compaq customers.
"The new Compaq Enterprise Solution Center will provide
unprecedented, real-world proof-of-concept testing capabilities for
Compaq customers," said Ed Wolyniec, Vice President, North America
Enterprise Services, Compaq Computer Corporation. "While many of our
competitors offer some form of testing capability, they typically must
simulate the demands of large networked environments with virtual
clients using software emulation. In our Enterprise Solution Centers,
we physically assemble full-scale distributed environments based on
customers' planned or production implementations and test every
component involved in the system. As a result, Compaq customers are
able to preview how a proposed system of desktops, networking
equipment, servers and software will perform under real-life operating
conditions."
To further complement the wide breadth of Compaq hardware and
technical expertise, ESC systems can be configured to support a
variety of networking topologies, protocols and operating environments
to include 16 Mb Token Ring, 10 Mb shared Ethernet, and 10 Mb switched
Ethernet connectivity. Six hundred of the desktop units are also
capable of 100 Mb shared Ethernet connectivity.
The various satellite centers located around the country,
including the centers scheduled to open next year, are similarly
equipped, but on a slightly smaller scale. Each satellite location
contains approximately 100 desktop nodes on site, as well as servers
and networking components that can be linked via high-bandwidth
connection to all other centers, forming a 1600-node wide area network
infrastructure to accommodate large-scale testing.(a)

Compaq Customers Attest to Benefits of Enterprise Solution
Center

Many of Compaq's customers, working closely with Compaq
Enterprise Consulting Services, have garnered tremendous results from
the resources available in the Enterprise Solution Centers.
Deloitte & Touche engaged Compaq Enterprise Consulting Services
and used the ESC to determine the maximum user load for its internally
developed time-billing system. At first, the application failed to
support more than 60 users. "The results revealed in the ESC
identified problems that we wouldn't have found until it was too
late," said John Lay, a Senior Technical Specialist with Deloitte &
Touche. "Working with a great team of professionals from Compaq
Enterprise Consulting Services, we made minor hardware and software
modifications that dramatically improved performance. As a direct
result, our application can now comfortably support up to 1600 users."
After deciding to migrate 20,000 users to Microsoft Exchange and
Schedule Plus, the Boeing Company asked Compaq Enterprise Consulting
Services to conduct tests in the Enterprise Solution Center using
Compaq ProLiant servers and determine the best configuration for
supporting and maintaining the transition. After the full-scale
proof-of-concept testing was complete, Boeing confidently deployed
the Compaq solution and successfully completed the migration.
The successes realized as a result of conducting tests in the
Compaq Enterprise Solution Center have been shared by numerous
customers who have repeatedly relied on the talents of Compaq
Enterprise Consulting Services to support extensive and reliable
full-scale testing of systems and designs prior to deployment. The
results achieved offer Compaq customers peace of mind in knowing that
their system configurations have been proven effective in a real-world

This year finally made some money buying and selling calls which includes me in the 1%. Only problem was I made about 1% profit. I'm sticking to stock trading from now on unless things begin to look really grim at which point I'll buy some insurance puts. Don't know about all brokers but many charge higher fee for option trading so that's a consideration.
