Petz , re. tons of money
I agree 100% . The .25 K6 most likely has only the low end at 233mhz .
No doubt the 266 , 300 and above will be forthcoming soon .
Intel has nothing to compare for notebook use . PII is too hot and
too large to fit into the slim notebooks which are the trend now.
So Intel makes most of their profit from server CPUs and AMD gets their cream from the notebook market . Imagine also a K6-3d - 300 mhz for notebooks , what kind of price will that sell for ?
have a good day ! Brian

Petz, Yield wins all. You are very right at 50% yield they would only cost ten or so dollars each. I wonder if 50% is in reach?, at that price the package costs more than the die.

re: "with yield problems solved even K6's at $100 will make money."

More significantly, AMD now actually becomes iNTEL's worst nightmare.
Perhaps with the reality of the threat becoming real, the invasion of
this happy thread by malcontents from the iNTEL threads will come to
an end. (Hope springs eternal.) I am not sure which is more pleasent
to think of: the money we will all make (we have surely earned it.) or
their substantially final withdrawal from this thread.

Regards to all,

DARBES

p.s. to pAUL: If you are real nimble, you can probably pick up additional shares of iNTC as high as the low seventies. gOOD lUCK!

Petz,

AMD will make tons of money on the K6-266, K6-266 mobile, K6-300, K6-300 mobile, K6-3D-266 and K6-3D-300. The average selling price in Q3 was only $150. The chips above will be selling in the $300 to $700

I hate to disagree with you but I don't think any of these chips will sell at prices significantly over $300. If they were all here today, they could sell for $300 to $400, but when they arrive in sufficient quantities, the prices of the higher end will be in $200 to $300 range.

Joe
