Gen 2 is better on both range and hybrid economy...GM has to make a better economic argument to get the Volt past being a neat piece of technology with niche appeal....the Leaf is useless after the batteries are spent...so it's really a commuter/city/second car. It's a little cheaper and clearly simpler in technology so the sales pitch is also simpler....but it too is a niche car that will struggle to achieve mass appeal like, say, a Prius.

On the new Volt, the batteries are spent after 50 miles and the range has been increased to 300-350 miles.
