Scientists balk at ‘hottest year’ claims: Ignores Satellites showing 18 Year ‘Pause’ – ‘We are arguing over the significance of hundredths of a degree’ –

The ‘Pause’ continues

Climate Depot's Marc Morano: 'Claiming 2014 is the 'hottest year' on record based on hundredths of a degree temperature difference is a fancy way of saying the global warming 'pause' is continuing.'

The global warming establishment and the media are crowing about 2010 being in a tie for the “hottest year” ever. The UK Guardian headline sums up the media’s promotion:

UK Guardian: ‘Hottest Year’ Claim: 2014 officially the ‘hottest year’ on record US government scientists say - ‘Nasa and Noaa scientists report 2014 was 0.07F (0.04C) higher than previous records…The global average temperatures over land and sea surface for the year was 1.24F (0.69C) above the 20th century average, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa) and Nasa reported. The scientists said 2014 was 0.07F (0.04C) higher than the previous records set in 2005 and 2010.’

But scientists and climate skeptics are countering that the claims of “hottest year” are based on immeasurable temperature differences that are based on hundredths of a degree differences.

Climate Depot’s Marc Morano issued this statement: “There are dueling datasets. Surface temperature records and satellite records and they disagree. The satellites were set up to be “more accurate” than the surface records. See: Flashback: 1990 NASA Report: ‘Satellite analysis of upper atmosphere is more accurate, & should be adopted as the standard way to monitor temp change.’

Any temperature claim of “hottest year” based on surface data is based on hundredths of a degree hotter than previous “hottest years”. This immeasurable difference is not even within the margin of error of temperature gauges. The claim of the “hottest year” is simply a political statement not based on temperature facts. “Hottest year” claims are based on minute fractions of a degree while ignoring satellite data showing Earth is continuing the 18 plus year ‘pause’ or ‘standstill’. See: The Great Pause lengthens again: Global temperature update: The Pause is now 18 years 3 months (219 months)

Claiming 2014 is the “hottest year” on record based on hundredths of a degree temperature difference is a fancy way of saying the global warming ‘pause’ is continuing.”

End Morano statement. (Morano was former staff of U.S. Senate Environment & Public Works Committee and producer of upcoming documentary Climate Hustle.)

Even former NASA global warming chief scientist James Hansen, the leading proponent of man-made global warming in the U.S., conceded in 2011 that the “hottest year” rankings are essentially meaningless. Hansen explained that 2010 differed from 2005 by less than 2 hundredths of a degree F (that’s 0.018F). “It’s not particularly important whether 2010, 2005, or 1998 was the hottest year on record,” Hansen admitted on January 13.

Climatologist Dr. Judith Curry, former chair of the school of earth and atmospheric sciences at Georgia Institute of Technology, had this to say about 2014 being the ‘hottest year’: “The ‘warmest year’ is noticeably missing in the satellite data sets of lower atmospheric temperatures,” Curry wrote on January 16. Curry predicts another decade of a global warming ‘pause’ or ‘hiatus’. “I’ve made my projection – global surface temperatures will remain mostly flat for at least another decade,” she eexplained

“With 2014 essentially tied with 2005 and 2010 for hottest year, this implies that there has been essentially no trend in warming over the past decade. This ‘almost’ record year does not help the growing discrepancy between the climate model projections and the surface temperature observations,” Curry told the Washington Post.

Curry continued: “Berkeley Earth (temperature analysis) sums it up well with this statement: ‘That is, of course, an indication that the Earth’s average temperature for the last decade has changed very little.’

Climatologist Dr. Pat Michaels, mocked the notion of the “hottest year.”

“Whether or not a given year is a hundredth of a degree or so above a previous record is not the issue. What IS the issue is how observed temperatures compare to what has been forecast to happen,” Michaels said.

Michaels continued: “John Christy and Richard McNider, from University of Alabama (Huntsville) recently compared climate model projections to observed lower atmospheric temperatures as measured by two independent sources: satellites and weather balloons. They found that the average warming predicted to have occurred since 1979 (when the satellite data starts) is approximately three times larger than what is being observed.”

Climatologist Dr. John Christy, professor of atmospheric sciences, University of Alabama-Huntsville, noted satellites do not agree with “warmest year” claims.

“The satellite and balloon data of the deep atmosphere have 2014 in a cluster of warmish years well below the hottest two of 1998 and 2010?, Christy said.

“With the government agencies reporting that the surface temperature as highest ever, we have a puzzle. The puzzle is even more puzzling because theory (i.e. models) indicate the opposite should be occurring – greater warmth in the deep atmosphere than the surface. So, there are just many very basic and fundamental aspects of the global climate we have yet to comprehend.”

Climatologist Dr. Roger Pielke Sr., professor of atmospheric science, Colorado State University downplayed the accuracy of the surface temperature record.

“There remain significant uncertainties in the accuracy of the land portion of the surface temperature data, where we have found a significant warm bias. Thus, the reported global average surface temperature anomaly is also too warm.”

“More generally, we need to move beyond just assessing global warming, but examine how (and if) key atmospheric and ocean circulations, such as El Nino, La Nina, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, etc. are changing in their intensity, structure and frequency. These are the climate features that determine if a region has drought, floods, and so forth, not a global average surface temperature anomaly,” Pielke added.

Meteorologist Dr. Ryan Maue of Florida State University ridiculed the same “hottest year” rankings in 2010 and NASA’s Hansen’s admission that it “was not particularly important” which year was declared the “hottest.” “Well, then stop issuing press releases which tout the rankings, which are subject to change ex post facto,” Maue demanded in a January 14, 2011 commentary at WattsUpWithThat.com.

No Record Temperatures According To Satellites – BBC put up a deliberately apocalyptic picture while telling us the world is on course for the warmest year on record. What they failed to tell us was that the more accurate satellites, which monitor atmospheric temperatures over nearly all of the globe, say no such thing. Figures from UAH are out for November, and these show a drop from the October anomaly of 0.27C to 0.33C. This means that at the end of November, this year is only in a tie for 3rd with 2005, and well below the record year of 1998, and 2010.

Borenstein ignores tide gauges on sea level showing deceleration of sea level rise and ignores satellite temperatures which show the Earth in an 18 year ‘pause’ or ‘standstill’ of global warming. "..Mossadegh was a wealthy aristocratic prince of the deposed Qajar dynasty. He was not elected by the people, he was appointed by the Shah."

Bill Ayers is a Historical Illiterate

By Manda Zand Ervin

Bill Ayers has granted an interview to the Fars News Agency, the voice of the ruling clergy in Iran. There is no information as to whether he is sought this interview or the reporter approached him for his endorsement of the anti-American rhetoric of the Islamic regime in Iran.

In this long America-bashing interview, Professor Bill Ayers has told the Ayatollah Khamenei’s reporter, Kourosh Ziabari; “that by most standards the [United States] is indeed a terrorist nation.” He also added, “American people are the greatest purveyors of violence on earth over the past half century, and the foremost threat to world peace today.”

As I read the interview I thought professor Bill Ayres was interviewing for a job at University of Tehran. And since the Islamic regime has not been successful in brainwashing younger Iranians against America, it can be advantageous for the supreme leader to have American academic Ayers to teach anti-American 101, to young Iranians.

This interview reveals that not only is Mr. Ayers historically illiterate, he sounds like he is living in an ideological cocoon, unaware of events occurring in the rest of the world.

Does he know what Russia has done to Central Asia, Iran, Afghanistan, and Eastern Europe beginning with the Tsars, Stalin, Communist era, and at the present time? Does he read the news of what a purveyor of violence and terror Russia has been to its neighbors? Does he know about the outright imperialistic taking of Crimea, half of Georgia, continuous domination and massacres in Chechnya, and the one sided war against the sovereignty of Ukraine?

Does the good professor know how terrified of Russia and Mr. Putin the neighboring countries are? Does he know that Russia’s victim countries are asking for the protection of the United States?

These are only a few of Russia’s escapades of terrorism and aggression, not including political manipulation by threatening to withhold energy from Europe, charging the Mullahs billions to build “nuclear energy” facilities that Iran does not need, and selling arms to everyone to cause destruction and unrest.

And in fact is Professor Bill Ayers aware of what President Putin would have done to him, had he been a Russian citizen, daring to do and say what he has done and said as an American?

Here is some real history for the esteemed professor: In the 1919 Versailles conference after WWI, the British refused to allow Iran to submit their claim for the damages and the famine that European war occupation had caused. The only country that stood by Iran and demanded that they be allowed to submit their claim was America, which was ignored by the other Western countries.

If there was no American financial and agricultural aid there would have been another famine in Iran after the WWII also. If it was not for America’s protection, Stalin would have completed its ongoing occupation of Iran at the end of the war.

If the United States had not stood by Iran and had not helped Iran to build a strong military to defend herself, the old British and Russian imperialists would have continued their colonization of Iran.

And oh -- the 1953 "coup" story that the left has made up and that the British have allowed to continue was actually the work of MI6 to guarantee British ownership of Iran’s oil, It was not the CIA -- the U.S. had no interests in Iran. Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh was a wealthy aristocratic prince of the deposed Qajar dynasty. He was not elected by the people, he was appointed by the Shah. Iranian and CIA documents are declassified, but the British government has refused to do the same.

My homeland Iran was divided between the Russians and British imperialists for over a hundred years and had no sovereignty. Professor Bill Ayers should learn that it was only America that stood by the abused little country called Iran and secured her sovereignty after WWII. Yes, America helped Iranians to continue making the dreams of their 1906 constitutional revolution in hopes of modernity, prosperity, and sovereignty that became reality in the 1970s.

Yes, we had problems with the jihadism of radical Shi’a clergy and the KGB supported communist Tudeh party, but Iranians were moving in the right direction as a member of the international community, with equal rights for women, free education K through PhD, a secular justice system, a vibrant economy, and a self-confident society.

Professor Ayers does not understand that the ruling Islamic clergies are anti-American not because of the military power, but because America represents the power of the people.

This is how America loses friends.

Coal has been the world’s fastest growing energy source for a decade. That’s largely been driven by China. Increasingly, though, it’s about India too, which has important climate implications.

The chart below shows annual changes in global oil, gas, and coal consumption. (The figure for a given year is the change from the previous year; all numbers in this post are based on the BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2014.) Between 1988 and 2002 coal led the pack only once. But between 2003 and 2013, coal led in every year but 2008.

Aussie Green plans to kayak to Paris, to ‘deliver a message’ – could it be “greens go by air”?

Look, another green with a massive carbon footprint. Flying to the other side of the world on fossil fuels and back to put on a global warming stunt.

..... Not only does his kayak appear to be a modern plastic construction, lightweight and safe, rather than the kind of fire burned dugout effort you would expect from a truly committed eco-warrior, but Steve’s route to Paris includes a couple of long haul airline flights.

“From Canberra he drags his kayak to Port Kembla and then paddles up to Sydney. He will fly to the Gulf of Mexico, then paddle through North America to Canada. From there he will fly to Britain and will paddle through England and across the English Channel to Paris. There he will deliver his message at the United Nations Climate Summit in November 2015.”

Nevertheless, you have to admire Steve Posselt’s audacious hypocrisy, given that he is employing all this fossil fuel sourced goodness to achieve his goal;

“It is not a big deal to go to a zero carbon economy. It’s about political will.”

You first mate.
