All you need to do is reduce regulation that hampers said competition, and everything else will just take care of itself.

Barriers to entry are high. Else you'd see a lot more competition. With profit margins being 90% plus, the attraction is there. But it requires deep pockets to play. Like Google-deep and even they are only in very limited markets.

Internet these days is a major infrastructure component. Which the government has traditionally had a role in. There are a whole string of projects, starting with the National Road, where government funding put into place critical infrastructure. Even the founders who were small government understood that.

Now what regulation do you imagine is hampering competition in the ISP space? Can you name any?
