There is a horse race going on right now, and I suspect the lead will change back and forth many times in the coming months. The contenders are the TV set and the PC. This announcement just moved the TV horse ahead by a neck, but the PC horse has got some serious legs. Stay tuned.

As for ATHM, they shouldn't care less who wins, but movement forward by either party is obviously positive.

Bob, this is jusy my opinion, and does not have much direct info behind it. I think the set top box stuff is junk, and the fool on the hill,Malone is behind it. Have you looked at the new Web TV?? They can't keep it in stock, its flying off the shelves, and it is only going to get more functionality. You can watch T.V. and surf the web at the same time,it has a 1.1 GB Hard Drive, and also,it has a printer port.
I think the Web T.V. thing should wipe out both NC's and the stupid, semi dumb cable boxes. Web T.V. is still $279 and has much more functionality than either one of these, and the cable boxes are around $350??? Wow,another stupid Malone move, hey how many stupid moves does one Malone make, and still stay in business. I hope they totally separate @Home from TCI,TCI will sink like a stone in the East River.
Once Web T.V. is cable modem ready, and comes with a Pentium chip, watch out, this will be the access of the future, and MSFT hold this trump card. @Home and Web T.V. are the horses that will win,in my opinion.
NLV deal is fools gold.
Hiram

Bob-- I ran into a guy at 'the mall' this afternoon who just happens to be a field tech for TCI. It was a brief conversation, but he told me a couple of interesting things. 1. He's personally involved with the infrastructure development (knee-deep in the mud) and not a day goes by that people don't stop to inquire about the availability of @Home. 2. They activated 40 nodes (?) last week in South Seattle... I think that's 4000 new homes. 3. I live in a cable system adjacent the one he's working on... they've started a process here called 'walk out' which I gather means physically examining each street and correlating map data. In my cable system, all addresses will be two way HFC within 2 years (his best guess based on current manpower), and none are presently. Wish he coulda lingered a bit more. Paul
