That's stupid. It doesn't aid the state to allow a deduction for real estate taxes. It allows taxpayers to keep more of their own money.

When taxing jurisdictions are trying to sell a property tax increase to voters they don't say, "Just think, you'll be able to deduct it!"

The point is to encourage home ownership and avoid the inherently unfairness of pay taxes on money that was used by the taxpayer to pay other taxes.
