That sounds like totally unnecessary redundancy. Since I've never had a hard drive crash in over 20 years of doing this, I may be way overdue, but I don't plan to keep more than one image of each machine.
I've gotten by all this time by backing up to, originally, floppy drives. Until I bot this external drive, my backups have all been on CDs. I've never had to rely on one of those except for something that I deliberately took off the hard drive to make room and put it on the CD.
