I am not particularly hot on Cortona, read my post again, where I stated, that 'tourists from overseas' (US visitors to Tuscany) like a lot.
I have other Italian waterholes both in Tuscany and Umbria as well as else where and as a matter of fact have only travelled through Cortona by car once.

But speaking the language helps a lot to get to those and their hidden secrets :)
