The 'new' sources are harder and more expensive to extract. A situation the Saudis are exploiting right now.

In the 1970s oil was a few bucks a barrel. It is now $60. When the Saudis achieve whatever goals they have it will go up. When China and India climb out of their slump, it will go up even more.

And production in the US will start declining in a few years. We may or may not exceed the 1971 peak, depending on what the Saudis do.

Fast-forward to today, where once again the prediction is that we'll run out of oil in 50 years.
Where did you see this prediction???? You have any idea about how much of the world's energy is now being produced by alternative methods??? No matter how you extract the oil, there is still only a finite amount.
