Gold gave up some of its recent gains, as traders took some profits and squared up, ahead of the ECB stimulus package announcement, expected at 8:30 EST. It is widely expected that a package of 50 billion euro a month will be added to liquidity through ECB bond purchases, in an attempt to re-inflate European economies. The news conference held by Draghi about an hour later will crystallize more details of the package. Until the details are known, speculating on the medium impact on the metals is a mute exercise. Expect some serious volatility ahead, and through, the European close.
