The required talent can be purchased. Lobbyists sell to the highest bidder and nobody has deeper pockets than MSFT. I agree that it's a sad commentary on the American political climate that what would be regarded as a national treasure in other countries is subject to this sort of attack, but it does have a bright side. Just as responding to the challenge of the Internet, the Network PC, etc. has made MSFT stronger, so too will rising to this challenge.
