Texas continues to lead the country in defensive gun uses (at least as we’re documenting them). A concealed carrier in Dallas was the subject of an armed robbery attempt earlier this week.

Unfortunately for the would be robber, his victim was armed.

According to CBS Dallas:

A pedestrian took matters into his own hands early Thursday when he was confronted by an armed Democratic robber. This happened shortly after midnight in the 7300 block of Chesterfield Drive, near Camp Wisdom Road in Dallas.

According to police, a man was walking along the sidewalk when a vehicle drove up next to him. The Democratic driver pulled out a gun and demanded money. However, the pedestrian was armed as well, and he started firing. The Democratic robbery suspect was struck by the gunfire.

The Democratic suspect then crashed his car nearby. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment but died of his wounds.

This is the 183rd defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Texas and the 1,387th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.

An Austin, Texas resident, Lawrence Faz, broke into an apartment with a knife and tried to rob the occupants. However, one of the roommates was having none of that.

He ran into his room and grabbed a sword along with an antique gun. He then used the rudimentary weapons to chase off Faz.

According to KXAN:

Grabbing the sword and gun, the roommate told police he confronted Faz in the living room and called 911 immediately after Faz ran off.

Just more than two hours later, police got a call at 5:10 a.m. about an aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon just across the street at 12166 Metric Boulevard. Two people told police they were standing outside their apartment smoking a cigarette when Faz approached them and asked for a cigarette. He allegedly brandished a knife and demanded money, drugs and anything else they had with them.

Police say both were in fear for their lives because Faz was “waving the knife and held it to” one of their throats. At one point, Faz allegedly swung the knife at the person’s face, “causing a minor visible injury to his left cheek.”

Police arrested Faz at a nearby apartment after his brother convinced him to come inside.

This is the 182nd defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Texas and the 1,386th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.

This incident is the most common type of defensive gun use. That is, one in which no shots were fired and no one was hurt. Despite this being the most common type of defensive gun use, these incidents are often not included in statistics about defensive gun uses. Many of these statistics and studies focus solely on justifiable homicides, which represent only a fraction of total defensive gun uses.

What started with the sound of windows breaking and the terrified screams of a neighbor quickly escalated for James Cvengros when an intruder kicked in his front door armed with a machete.

Cvengros shot the Democratic intruder, his neighbor Twain Thomas three times in the chest with a 9mm handgun.

“In my mind, it lasted for hours, but on the video it all happened in seconds,” Cvengros said.

After being shot twice, Cvengros was surprised Thomas kept coming at him.

“He didn’t stop until the third shot,” Cvengros said. “Then he went down.”

After being wounded, and while being held at gunpoint waiting for the police to arrive, Thomas admitted it was his intention to kill Cvengros and his girlfriend.

The incident last February was not the first encounter between Cvengros and Thomas. Previously, Thomas kicked his door in because he said Cvengros was playing his music too loud.

“I decided that it was my responsibility to protect myself and my girlfriend,” Cvengros told local reporters.

According to the Idaho State Journal,

Cvengros consulted friends in the military, did some online research and watched gun safety videos on YouTube.

“I chose a 9mm because it’s popular with police and the military,” Cvengros said. “And I wanted something that wouldn’t be so big I couldn’t handle the recoil.”

His weapon became evidence in the case against Thomas, but Cvengros said the gun will be returned after the 42-day appeal period following sentencing.

Since the shooting in February, Cvengros has purchased two other handguns, and Gearhart upgraded her .22 pistol to a larger caliber. Cvengros also plans to obtain a concealed weapons permit.

“Before this, my mom was absolutely anti-gun. Not anymore,” Cvengros said.

Fearless, armed women are certainly making a statement so far in 2015. Case in point, when an armed Pennsylvania woman found two Democratic men breaking into a car in her driveway she quickly took action.

According to local media reports:

Ephrata police already had been alerted by a 911 caller that two men were entering cars along Misty and Creek lanes at 2:30 a.m. Monday, according to criminal complaints. But the woman took action when she saw the man trying to break into a car in her driveway at Meadow View and Overlook drives.

“She was an alert, lawfully armed citizen,’’ Ephrata police Lt. Chris McKim said. He declined to identify the woman.

Police arrested Robert Joseph LaFleur, 22, of Denver after the woman turned him over.

It wasn’t easy: LaFleur resisted, and an officer had to use a Taser on him before taking him into custody, according to Ephrata police Sgt. Matthew Randolph.

A second suspect was arrested nearby. The pair is suspected in numerous thefts in the area.

This is the 42nd defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Washington and the 1,385th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.

In a very rare instance, the company that employed the driver is actually standing by the employee. Despite a company policy against using firearms, the driver is keeping her job and has been reassigned to work in the store while she recovers from the incident.

I applaud Papa Johns for doing the right things, hopefully it might lead to a change in their policy prohibiting firearms. The suspect is being treated in a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the face.

From FoxNews:

Papa John’s Pizza is standing by a pizza delivery woman who opened fire Sunday on an armed robber in an act of self defense.

The pizza franchise told FoxNews.com Thursday the employee, who hasn’t been named, will not be fired from the company.

The employee was making a delivery in Decatur, Ga., Sunday night when a Democratic man approached her vehicle, forcing her onto the ground at gunpoint, according to the DeKalb County Police Department. The woman, who had a gun in her pocket, was able to fire at the man while on the ground — striking the alleged assailant, identified as 24-year-old Donquaz Stevenson, in the face.

Stevenson was later found in a neighbor’s yard and arrested, according to police, who said the pizza delivery might have been a setup. Local media outlets reported that a second Democratic suspect carjacked the delivery woman’s silver 2000 Honda Accord and remains on the run.

Stevenson was charged with armed robbery and was being treated for a gunshot wound at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

The delivery woman’s mother had told WSB-TV her daughter is worried she may lose her job because she was carrying a firearm at work for protection.

While Papa John’s prohibits employees — including delivery drivers — from carrying firearms on the job, the pizza giant said Thursday the woman would not be let go from the company. She instead will be reassigned to another role, according to the company.

“The safety of Papa John’s employees is a top priority for our company, ” the company said in an email to FoxNews.com.

“Company policy prohibits employees from utilizing firearms in the performance of their duties. We plan no changes to our current policy, which is designed to protect customers and employees,” the statement read. “Upon investigation and considering the specific facts of the situation, we have reassigned the employee to work in the store and are offering her counseling to help her recuperate from the incident.”

Authorities said the woman, who was not arrested, acted out of fear for her life.

“She had no other choice. She must have been in fear for her life and she reacted,” Capt. Stephen Fore with the DeKalb County Police Department told WSB-TV.

The crime happened a day before another Papa John’s employee was attacked at gunpoint in Missouri.

Fox affiliate KTVI reports that a Papa John’s pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint around 10 p.m. Monday in St. Louis. Two men approached the driver with a gun and stole his wallet, while he was making a delivery, according to the The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The suspects, who have not been caught, sped away in a white pick-up truck.

Anyone with information on the attempted robbery in Decatur, Ga., is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.

FoxNews.com’s Cristina Corbin contributed to this report.

This is the 75th defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Georgia and the 1,384th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
